Travel Tips
Season by season: when to visit Morocco for the desert, the mountains, the cities and the coast.
Morocco is a year-round destination, but the "best" time depends on where you want to go. The country combines Mediterranean, Atlantic, mountain and desert climates — sometimes on the same day.
Often considered the ideal season. Days are warm, nights comfortable in the desert, the Atlas valleys are green and orchards are in bloom. It is also a popular period, so we recommend planning early.
Very hot inland: Marrakech and Fes regularly exceed 100°F (38°C), and the Sahara is hotter still. Summer works well if you focus on the Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Agadir, Taghazout), the mountains, and early-morning sightseeing. Desert nights are warm.
An excellent season, similar to spring. The heat fades in September and October, making it ideal for combining the cities with the Sahara.
Sunny, mild days in Marrakech and the south, with cold nights. Desert nights can approach freezing, so good camps provide heating or extra blankets. Snow is common in the High Atlas, which is beautiful but can occasionally affect mountain roads.
The dates of Ramadan move earlier each year (it follows the lunar calendar). Traveling during Ramadan is perfectly possible: sites remain open, though some restaurants close during the day and the atmosphere after sunset is special. Please be respectful of those who are fasting.
